MEET OUR U7 SQUAD

LEICESTER & DISTRICT MUTUAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

In their first season together (many who have come through the Lions Minis Academy), the Loughborough Lions U7 Reds are already developing into a strong, energetic and close-knit team competing in Level 3 of the Leicestershire junior football pathway. The squad is led by manager Allan Blackey, who proudly coaches his grandson Rio, bringing a real family spirit to the touchline. Supporting him is assistant coach Jorden Blackey, Allan’s son, who also plays an active role in helping the young players grow in confidence and ability.

Despite being one of the newest teams in the club, the U7 Reds have shown fantastic early progress. Their exciting journey so far includes reaching the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 Lions Cup, a brilliant achievement for such a young side and a clear sign of the potential within this group of nine eager players. With every week that passes, the team continue to build their understanding of the game, develop new skills, and create strong friendships both on and off the pitch.

The highly dedicated Reds train twice a week—Wednesdays from 6–7pm and Saturdays from 10–11am—giving the players plenty of time to learn, improve, and most importantly, enjoy their football. The team proudly carry the support of their sponsors: JMFA, Sports Advocate, and Woodthorpe Lodge Care Home, whose backing plays a key role in helping the squad grow and thrive, whilst helping promote these companies around Leicestershire.

Currently the team is not looking for any additional player, but follow the Loughborough Lions Facebook page where any changes or recruitment within the squads will be posted.
